The Institute of Transport Research has set itself the mission of investigating the mobility and transport needs of people or companies and the effects of transport on the economy, society and the environment. The guiding principle is the future development of the transport system based on sustainability principles. Empirical work and data-based modelling of transport demand constitute majors tool to investigate the causes of transport and to assess its impacts. In addition to the pure gain of knowledge on mobility and its drivers, our research outcomes contribute to the development and implementation of organizational and regulatory measures by policy makers on the one hand and to the introduction of new technologies by industry and mobility service providers on the other hand.
