The German Archaeological Institute (DAI) conducts worldwide research in the field of various archaeological disciplines and their related sciences, promotes and publishes them. With its research projects, the DAI creates an important basis for the dialogue between cultures, for international scientific cooperation and for the preservation of cultural heritage. It maintains research infrastructures that are open to scientists from all over the world and pursues the principles of open access and open source. In addition, the promotion of young scientists and the scientific exchange in Europe and around the world is one of the institute's main tasks. With all of this it also serves foreign cultural and educational policy as well as foreign science policy. The German Archaeological Institute was founded in 1829 and is a federal agency within the Federal Foreign Office.
