A long life for many people is a success of modern societies. However, demographic change also brings challenges. The German Center for Aging (DZA), a federal research institute under the responsibility of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), contributes to understanding and solving the questions of aging societies with its social and behavioral research on aging. The DZA examines the diversity and inequality of age and aging in different areas of life, such as social relationships, employment, volunteering, health, income and wealth. As a publicly funded institution, the institute not only participates in scientific discourse, but also prepares its research results for political advice and disseminates its findings to the general public. The DZA makes the data of its long-term studies - German Aging Survey and German Volunteer Survey - available to science free of charge, thus enabling scientific exchange and cooperation on a national and international level.
