As an institution dedicated to research and the training of the next generation of academics, the Centre Marc Bloch is characterised by its interdisciplinary approach and its Franco-German nature. Interdisciplinary exchange is an essential component of all the Centre’s projects, research areas and research groups, which encompass the various disciplines within the humanities and social sciences. As a leading hub for networking between universities, research institutions and researchers, the Centre Marc Bloch also acts as an important intermediary between France and Germany.

The Centre Marc Bloch e.V. is funded, on the one hand, by the respective governments – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and the Ministry of Education (MESR) of France, the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Berlin Senate – and, on the other hand, research institutions – the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (WiKo). In addition, the German-French University (DFH) plays a key role in Franco-German academic cooperation.
